Chill Out
Being diagnosed with breast cancer and having treatment can be extremely stressful and wearing. At times, it can feel like one is trapped in a downward spiral, as the side effects of chemo and radiotherapy fatigue sets in as well as being emotionally drained. If you feel like taking a break that offers a safe, supportive and healthy environment to chill out, then here are some ideas to investigate.
Casting for Recovery provides an opportunity for women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer to enjoy an all-expenses paid retreat at a stunning venue to learn the beautiful art of fly fishing. Just as importantly, the retreats offer an opportunity to meet new friends, share stories, support others and, crucially, have fun. The weekend retreats are free to attendees and incorporate medical advice, educational services, counselling and relaxation techniques. The retreats are delivered by trained professionals including a psycho-social therapist, a health care professional (e.g. physiotherapist, nurse), as well as qualified fly fishing instructors and fishing guides. It is Casting for Recovery mission to provide women with powerful tools for healing and to help and support them in moving forward.
Sail 4 Cancer is a specialist cancer respite charity with a sporting focus. Sail 4 Cancer was set up by a group of keen sailors who had all lost a close friend or relative to cancer. There is lots on offer, plenty of opportunities for people living with cancer to get out on the water. Whether you would like to spend time with family or friends relaxing in the fresh air, or if you would like to experience the exhilaration of wind and waves whilst trying a new sport, there is something for almost everyone. Sail 4 Cancer works with a network of Macmillan Centres, medical professionals and cancer support groups, who nominate families and individuals for trips in the belief that it will help them through a difficult time. Sail 4 Cancer also accepts nominations through their website.
